Inspiring the Best in Our Children

The School Libraries Project transformed eight public elementary and middle School libraries in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood into vital learning spaces for 2,500 children.

The Project, born out of a grassroots coalition of PTA Presidents, school leaders, and community activists, was inspired by a similar projects in New York City and in Washington, D.C. Through a unique public-private partnership between the District of Columbia Public Schools and the all-volunteer School Libraries Project the libraries listed below were completed during the summer of 2007:

  • Brent Elementary
  • Ludlow-Taylor Elementary
  • Stuart Hobson Middle School
  • Tyler Elementary
  • Payne Elementary
  • Watkins Elementary
  • Maury Elementary
  • Peabody Early Childhood Center
