Capper Carrollsburg Apartments

Following the third major local fire in 10 years, the Capitol Hill community exhibited an astounding outpouring of support for our neighbors impacted by the fire at the Capper Seniors Building on September 19, 2018.

The Foundation, partnering with the Van Ness Elementary School PTO, ANC Commissioner Meredith Fascett, and Ward 6 Council Member Charles Allen, created a fund to help residents displaced by the fire. Neighbors and local business owners all contributed to this fund, raising over $330,000 in a short period of time. With the assistance of the American Red Cross, money from this fund was distributed to the leaseholders of the 160 apartments destroyed by the fire.
