Cultural Tourism DC--Encourage Exploration of DC Neighborhoods and Embassies


Cultural Tourism DC provides authentic experiences by walking along 17 Neighborhood Heritage Trails or participating in the guided tours of WalkingTown DC; offers insight into the diplomatic community via Passport DC and Around the World Embassy Tour; and showcases music and neighborhoods during PorchFest.  Affiliate member organizations provide authentic cultural experiences.  CTDC encourages people to explore Washington, boost the Community's ecomomic prosperity; and become civically engaged.

Volunteer during WalkingTown DC, Sunday, September 15 - Sunday, September 23, 2018
Position:  Cultural Tour Guide Assistant
Age: Must be 18 years of age or older on date of event
Location: Different locations, according to the tour

WalkingTown DC is DC's best public tour program, featuring more than 50 guided walking tours in neighborhoods throughout the District.  This popular annual event introduces residents and visitors to the art, culture, and history of Washington, DC through a series of "bite-size" lunchtime tours, after-work "happy hour" tours, and longer weekend tours.

  • Support the tour guide before and during the tour
  • Help keep people safe during the tour
  • Tour Volunteers registers to assist for a specific walking tour
  • Serve as Cultural Tourism DC ambassadors
  • Help Cultural Tourism DC evaluate the event

Volunteer during Adams Morgan PorchFest
Position: Culturism DC Ambassador at Adams Morgan PorchFest
Date:  First Saturday of October
Age: 18 years of age or older on the day of the event to volunteer
Location: Different porches and patios in Adams Morgan

Description: Enjoy an afternoon of great music while helping make Adams Morgan PorchFest a wonderful success!

Volunteer Overview
As a PorchFest volunteer, you will assist the performers and help home and business-owner hosts provide a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. PorchFest is a great way to introduce people to a neighborhood.  It offers a Saturday afternoon with dozens of entertainers performing on residential porches and commercial patios, and encourages visitors to roam and pursue their perfect place to listen and linger.

Volunteers need to attend an in-person or conference call orientation. We'll provide you with a small packet of information to guide you through orientation and to keep with you while you're volunteering.

Volunteer during Rhode Island PorchFest
Position: Culturism DC Ambassador at Rhode Island PorchFest
Date:  Second Saturday of May
Age: 18 years of age or older on the day of the event to volunteer
Location: Different porches and patios along Rhode Island Avenue

Description: Enjoy an afternoon of great music while helping make Rhode Island Avenue Main Street PorchFest a wonderful success!

Volunteer during Passport DC
Position: Cultural Tourism DC Ambassador at the Around the World Embassy Tour
Date:  First Saturday of May
Time: 10am - 4pm (AM and PM shifts available)
Location: Various embassies and three information booths located at Dupont Cirlce, UDC/Van Ness, and the National Cathedral.

Description: The Around the World Embassy Tour features more than 40 embassies opening their doors to DC residents and visitors. Each embassy presents aspects of its cultural heritage including music, art, dance, fashion, and food.  Information booths at Dupont Circle, UDC/Van Ness are hubs for activity where volunteers help visitors navigate to their choice of embassies.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:
- Embassy (assigned to a specific embassy)
- Information Booth
- Floaters (ready to help where needed!)

Volunteer Overview
All volunteers serve as welcoming cultural ambassadors for one of the best international culture and heritage events in DC.  All volunteers receive a t-shirt and need to attend an orientation session.  This will be a great networking opportunity!
