Little Lights empowers under-served youth, families, and communities in Washington, DC, by sharing the hope of Christ through compassionate action, caring relationships, and racial reconciliation. Based out of three DC public housing communities, Little Lights provides students with high quality and intensive after-school and summer programs, including opportunities for academics and enrichment, one-to-one mentoring, and spiritual growth. Little Lights also provides adults and families with opportunities for family resourcing and workforce development. 

Volunteer Opportunities

Homework Club Tutor
Commitment: Monday-Thursday from 3:30-6pm, commit to 1 day/week
About: After-school homework-help program for students preK-8th grade
Role: Help students complete their homework and other academic activities, or help facilitate recreation/meal time

Reading Heroes Tutor 
Commitment: Weekly on Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm, arrive ~5:45pm. Volunteers can miss no more than 2 sessions/semester
About: One-to-one reading tutoring program for kindergarten through 8th grade students
Role: Each tutor walks through an individualized learning plan with the same student each week, helping each student reach grade-level literacy.

Math Heroes Tutor 
Commitment: Weekly on Thursdays 6-7:30pm, arrive ~5:45pm. Volunteers can miss no more than 2 sessions/semester
About: One-to-one math tutoring program for kindergarten through 8th grade students
Role: Each tutor walks through an individualized learning plan with the same student each week, helping each student reach grade-level proficiency in math.
