Shakespeare at School

The Folger Shakespeare Library
George Didden Memorial Project

In 2008, the Foundation partnered with National Capital Bank and the Folger Shakespeare Library to launch an ambitious program — Shakespeare at School: The Folger Shakespeare Library George Didden Memorial Project.

Since the program’s inception, nearly every Capitol Hill elementary and middle school has been involved. Each year, students in participating classrooms are immersed in a yearlong introduction to Shakespeare and the world of the theater.

In the spring, students contribute to the Didden Shakespeare Festival, performing their own interpretations of Shakespeare's works on the stage of the Folger.

Shakespeare at School is fully funded by the Foundation, with underwriting by National Capital Bank. This project was inspired by the life of George Didden III, an esteemed founding board member of the Foundation, business leader, and lifelong supporter of the theater and education.
