The Capitol Hill Public Schools Parent Organization hosted a successful Walk-to-School Day on Oct. 4 in Lincoln Park.
"Twitter was all abuzz that this was the best Walk-to-School Day ever! A record fifteen schools participated," organizers wrote in an email. "The highlight for many of us was Representative John Lewis sharing that he walked to school as a young boy along unpaved roads years before he marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King."
Several other VIPs were also in attendance including Eleanor Holmes Norton, Charles Allen, Muriel Bowser and Chancellor Wilson. The event wrapped up with a performance by the Eastern High School marching band.
