Green Seed Community Garden receives $10,000 Keller Award

Hidden in an alley, behind the houses on 17th, 18th, D, and E Streets SE, is an urban oasis - the Green Seed Community Garden wit 75 plots for neighbors to grow vegetables.

At the Community Achievement Awards celebration on April 28, the Green Seed Community Garden will be presented with the Foundation's Arnold F. Keller, Jr Award. The award honors projects that make a significant and ongoing contribution to the life of the community.

Since its founding in 2008, the garden has become much more than just a collection of raised beds. It is a communal backyard, playground, picnic area, and social hub for the families that garden there. This $10,000 award will allow the Green Seed Community Garden to serve as a neighborhood green space in perpetuity.
