On June 5, 2013 tragedy struck the Frager’s Hardware store as fire ravaged the historic store. Before sun up the next day, donations started to pour into the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
Over $130,000 was raised and distributed by the Foundation to those directly impacted by the fire. Frager’s employees received funds to support them in the transition period as Frager’s Hardware worked with the community to find transition space and work towards a longterm rebuilding strategy. Once again, the Foundation acted as steward for the neighborhood’s efforts to protect and sustain a longstanding community asset and support individuals effected by disaster.
